Snorkeling Conversation
Our family is taking another rare Liao family vacation in a couple weekends. This time we will be traveling to be beautiful island of Catalina just off the coast of Southern Cali. We will most likely be staying only a night so I was looking for things to do because I don’t want to waste time lounging around and not take full advantage of my weekend with my family on a nice little island.
Snorkeling popped into my head and I realized that a lot of people go to Catalina to fish because of the abundance of marine life there. I got excited remembering how fun snorkeling was the last time I went and I can’t wait to go again.
So I talked to my little sister.
“Hey dude, let’s go snorkeling when we’re at Catalina!”
Her response: Uh… I can’t swim.
…. WHAT!?
I can’t believe it. Since when did a kid grow up in Socal and not know how to swim? Then later on she changed her answer to I can’t swim WELL. Whatever, at least they have those vests you can wear so you can’t really drown unless you try to but I don’t recommend that.
So the conversation continues to the point where I don’t think my sister is really down with the idea of snorkeling, or being in the water, or even being on an island. But I get seasick really easily. It is nearly impossible to get seasick while you are swimming. But I’m not really a water person. No crap. And besides, don’t the fish smell bad? What. Since when can you smell things underwater? Apparently my sister can.
I still can’t wait to go snorkeling when I go to Catalina Island… I’ll just ditch my sister while I go.
And when I say snorkeling, I mean snorkeling in the ocean, not in the snow like this guy:
